GVE Learning Fund Donation

Literacy Fund-A-Need
$ .00

This year the Fund-a-Need is not straightforward like it has been in previous years ("New Swing Set!", "New Digital Sign for the Front of the School!"), but it is exponentially more important for our children's future success, academically and beyond.

This year we are funding towards LITERACY INITIATIVES on campus. The BIG one we are desperately trying to raise funds for is to continue to support our school-wide Reading Intervention Specialist. We are losing state funding for this position that came out of covid, and financial support for the role expires at the end of the year (!!!).

When you donate money towards the Fund-A-Need, either online here, or during the Live Auction at the event on March 2nd, your donation goes directly to supporting the following programs:

  1. Instruction Assistant (IA) Reading Intervention Specialist - $50,000

  2. The Literacy Lab - Paying for both staffing and materials to allow teachers to access these materials on an ongoing basis. The lab is stocked with literacy resources for teachers, this final donation push would be to provide staff with proper training on these materials and allow for student access to resources available within the lab.

  3. Librarian Hours - The Learning Fund fully funds our school librarian's hours. Ensuring we continue to have this position and financially support enough hours that classes can continue to have their independent library time slots (in the past, classes have had to buddy up on library times) and continue to offer lunchtime library hours for the kids twice a week.

  4. Professional Development (Teacher Training) in the "Science of Reading"
  • The district provides funding for a minimum number of teachers (K - 2rd Grade) to access this training (a week long conference in New York). This fundriasing ask is to fill the gap between the baseline of what the district provides, and how many additional teachers GV would like to train in this specialization. For more information, start at min 2:29:50 to hear more about The Science of Reading from the San Ramon District Coordinator on Literacy.

  • For Grades 3 - 5, professional development is in Morphology ("Morphemes" and "Morpheme Magic" programs).

Besides potentially winning some really fun items through the auction, the above is really what this entire auction fundraiser is about - raising money to support the critical needs at Green Valley Elementary. If you are passionate about supporting school programming, we are always looking for parents with a bit of time that can help volunteer. Consider volunteering with the Learning Fund or Site Council today!
